George Bernard Shaw's iconic Pygmalion is coming to Théâtre de Terre-Sainte in Coppet, staged by the Geneva English Drama Society. It tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, who sells flowers on the street for a penny a bunch until she meets Henry Higgins, who bets that he can pass her off as a Duchess if he teaches her how to speak in polite English society. But even the most famous phonetician in English literature can't make a woman what she is with words alone and it's what happens to Eliza after she can win Higgins; his bet that is the real question.

The prototypical makeover play that served as the framework for My Fair Lady, Shaw's Pygmalion has also been credited with the design for The Princess Diaries, Miss Congeniality, and of course She's All That. The original has stood the test of time as one of the greatest discussions of social identity ever written.

L'emblématique Pygmalion de George Bernard Shaw sera présenté au Théâtre de Terre-Sainte à Coppet, dans une mise en scène de la Geneva English Drama Society. Il raconte l'histoire d'Eliza Doolittle, qui vend des fleurs dans la rue pour un penny le bouquet, jusqu'à ce qu'elle rencontre Henry Higgins, qui parie qu'il peut la faire passer pour une duchesse s'il lui apprend à s'exprimer dans la société anglaise polie. Mais même le phonéticien le plus célèbre de la littérature anglaise ne peut pas faire d'une femme ce qu'elle est avec des mots seulement, et c'est ce qui arrive à Eliza après qu'elle a gagné le pari de Higgins qui est la vraie question.

Pygmalion de Shaw, la pièce de métamorphose par excellence qui a servi de cadre à My Fair Lady, est également à l'origine de The Princess Diaries, Miss Congeniality et, bien sûr, She's All That. L'œuvre originale a résisté à l'épreuve du temps et constitue l'une des plus grandes discussions sur l'identité sociale jamais écrites.
